Ans:- A desert is an area of land almost waterless and treeless.

2. Where does the western Desert lie ?
Ans:- The western Desert lies to the west of the Aravali Range , north of the Arabian Sea and south of Punjab .

3. Name the hills which divide Rajasthan into two parts.
Ans:- The Aravali Hills divide Rajasthan into two parts.

4. What kind of soil do we find in the Western Desert ?
Ans:- We find sandy soil in the Western Desert.

5. How does the sandy soil influence the climate of a place ?
Ans :- The sandy soil influences the climate of a place due to the presence of that place become so hot in summer and very cold in winter.

6. What is an Oasis ?
Ans:-The place of a desert where the underground water comes out to the surface . It does not dry up. Such a place is called an ‘oasis’.

7. Describe the vegetation of the western Desert into two sentences.
Ans:- i)Due to lake of rain We find very few plants in the Western Desert.
          ii) Some thorny trees like babul and kikar grow at some places.

8. How is man responsible for the spread of deserts ?
Ans:- A man is responsible for the spread of deserts by cutting down trees heedlessly.
( Because they are cutting a large number of trees which cause less amount of rain fall)
9. Why is the camel called ‘the ship of the desert ‘?
Ans:- A camel can move with ease on to sand. It can remain without water for many days. That is why camel is called ‘The ship of the desert’.

10. Name the river that supplies water to the state of Rajasthan .
Ans:- The Sutlej canal supplies water to the state of Rajasthan .

11. What is a sand dune ?
Ans:- A sand dune is a heap of sand that is carried by wind from one place to another place in a cyclic manner.
OR-A sand dunes is a mount or hill of sand.
